Edo: Police raid gun factory, arrest suspects

Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have raided a gun manufacturing factory and arrested two suspects.

The Command also recovered items such as native bullet proof vest and charms.

DAILY POST reports that the Commissioner of Police, Funsho Adegboye disclosed this to newsmen in Benin City while parading over 45 suspects arrested for various crimes across the state.

Adegboye said the arrested suspects include a female, identified as Choice Ebhodaghe and a male, Evans Ojiezele, 50.

He said the suspects were arrested during a raid by a team led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Department of Operations, Area Commander Uromi, in collaboration with the Divisional Police Officer Uromi, Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Unit and the Crack team.

He explained that the raid of the gun manufacturing factory located within Uromi in Edo North-East and Ubiaja in Esan South- East Local Government areas was occasioned by the Command’s self-sourced intelligence on a syndicate specializing in fabricating guns.

He listed items recovered in the factory to include five pump action guns, 25 locally made guns, one vice machine for gun manufacturing and nine rounds of live cartridges.

Others are some gun manufacturing tools, fifty-five pipes for gun manufacturing and thirty-five butts of locally made guns.

Adegboye, who said the suspects made statements and confessed to the crime, added that investigation had commenced on the matter.
