Popular American singer and actress, Chloe Bailey, has bemoaned racism in the music industry.
The 25-year-old lamented that Black artists are being boxed into genres while White singers are categorised as mainstream pop stars.
She claimed that her music is categorised as R&B because she is Black.
In her cover story with Nylon, Chloe claimed that if a White person does the same music she is doing, it would be in the pop category.
“Any music I do will easily and quickly be categorized as R&B because I’m a Black woman. If someone who didn’t have my skin tone made the same music, it would be in the pop categories. That’s just the way it’s always been in life,” she lamented.
She added that music has “no race, it has no genre, it has none of that. It’s just a feeling and it’s a vibration.”
