A charred torso with no arms or legs was discovered dumped at a Spanish holiday hotspot popular with Brits.

The headless remains were still smoking when they were spotted by a jogger in the Las Serreta area of Alicante on Monday.

Police were unable to immediately distinguish whether they belonged to a man or woman, but suspect they were probably male.

A post-mortem will now be carried out, with detectives hoping DNA will help identify them.

Forensics experts will also try to determine whether the victim suffered any injuries, such as stab wounds, before they died.

The grim discovery is being investigated by Spain’s violent crimes squad.

One theory is that it may be connected to the drugs trade.

It coincided with preparations for the bonfires of San Juan, a traditional Spanish regional festival that runs from June 19 to 24.

Detectives used a drone to scour the landscape for the rest of the body.

A suitcase filled with clothes was found nearby which had also been set alight.

Alicante is a tourist-friendly port city on Spain’s southeastern Costa Blanca.

It is known for its old town, with its winding streets, coloured houses, and vibrant night life.
