Association of Resident Doctors, General Hospital Ilorin, Kwara State, has appealed to the State Governor, AbdulRaman AbdulRazaq to recruit more medical personnel for the facility.
In a statement jointly signed by the President and Secretary of the association, Dr Usman Abubakar and Dr Audu Charles, respectively, they drew the attention of the governor to the shortage of medical personnel in the hospital, noting that it hindered services rendered in some departments.
“Since the General Hospital, Ilorin, is now a Teaching Hospital, it has become pertinent to address germane issues which will help the Teaching Hospital take off successfully and allow it to have smooth operations for the benefit of all in Kwara,” the ARD stated.
The doctors, however, congratulated the governor on the milestone achievements of his administration, especially in the area of malaria control and passage of the Kwara State Teaching Hospital Bill, among other laudable achievements.
“While congratulating you, on these achievements, we want you not to relent on your commendable efforts to make Kwara a shining star amongst other States in the country,” they added.
The association also pointed out the issue of the Medical Residency Training Act, saying it was overdue for domestication.
They stated, “This will allow resident doctors in the state to have better research and training opportunities in order for them to offer the best medical services to the people.
“We know as our leader, you will help look into them as they require very urgent attention.
“The entire members of the Association heartily wish Governor Abdulrahaman Abdrazaq, Barka da Sallah as we celebrate this year’s Eid Adha,” the Association said in the statement.
Recall that the state governor recently signed a bill which upgraded the state General Hospital to Kwara State University Teaching Hospital.
