Lunchtime sandwich urgently recalled over fears it contains E.coli

A sandwich company is urgently recalling one of their wraps over fears it has been contaminated with E.coli.

Manufacturer THIS! has urged customers to not eat their vegan chicken and bacon wrap, which is sold at WH Smith.

Those who have bought the product a any point up to June 18 should instead return it for a refund.

The Food Standards Agency said: ‘THIS! is taking the precautionary step of recalling a Chicken and Bacon wrap because of possible contamination with E. coli.

‘E. coli has not been detected in the product listed below but it is being recalled as a precaution. This product is only sold at WH Smith.’

Hundreds of people across the country fell ill after an E.coli outbreak last week, with at least 67 of those admitted to hospital, according to the UK Health Security Agency. 

They warned symptoms of E.coli infection include severe diarrhoea, abdominal pain and kidney failure.

It comes days after a group of major supermarkets recalled a selection of sandwiches, wraps and salads over E.coli fears.

AldiAsdaMorrisonsSainsbury’sCo-op and Boots are among the stores warning customers not to eat some of the pre-packed products made by Greencore Group. 

Greencore Group recalled 45 different items as a ‘precautionary measure’ due to possible contamination with the bacteria.

E. coli are a diverse group of bacteria that are normally harmless and live in the intestines of humans and animals.

However some strains, like Stec, can make people very ill.
