Pat Nevin has urged Manchester United midfield Scott McTominay to consider leaving the club after Euro 2024, insisting the Scotsman would not be short of offers.
McTominay enjoyed his best goalscoring season in the Premier League for United last term, notching up seven goals in 32 matches.
Despite that, the 27-year-old, who has been at the club since age five, struggled to pin down a regular starting berth in the engine room of Erik ten Hag’s side and, with just one season left on his contract, faces an uncertain future at Old Trafford.
McTominay is expected to play a key role for Scotland at the upcoming European Championship in Germany, but former Chelsea winger Nevin thinks his fellow countryman should consider a move away from his boyhood club after the tournament.
‘I’m sure he’d love to stay at United but maybe he could do with playing at another team that plays him in the right position,’ Nevin said speaking to NewBettingOffers.co.uk.
‘I don’t think United played him in his right position for a long, long time and then Steve Clarke played him there and he went on a run of scoring goals.
‘It’s tough at United, though, they’ve got so many great players – people like Bruno Fernandes – but if he can play in that more advanced role that gives him a few more chances at goal, that’s where he’s most dangerous.

‘I don’t think McTominay has to worry about his contract next year at Manchester United off the back of the Euros – there are a hell of lot of teams out there that would take him.
’You can imagine him playing at a team like Everton – he could be such a core member of that team. There are plenty of teams throughout the Premier League that would love McTominay, so he doesn’t need to worry.’
McTominay’s participation in Scotland’s first Euro 2024 group-stage game had been in doubt after he limped off in the final moments of United’s FA Cup final win against Manchester City and missed his country’s warm-up game against Finland.
However, speaking earlier in the week, Scotland’s assistant coach John Carver moved to allay any fears over the midfielder’s fitness.
‘I don’t know if you guys were there at training this morning, he was quite impressive,’ he said.
‘He was one of the last ones to finish because of the cup final. He has been working hard behind the scenes, doing some stuff. It’s no different for him.
‘He came on that training ground today and looked like he had never been away. He will be reading and firing for sure.’
