A United States (US) federal jury has ruled that the son of US President Joe Biden, Hunter, is guilty of all three federal felony gun charges he faced.
The jury ruled that he violated laws enacted to prevent drug addicts from owning firearms.
This conviction is historic in that it is the first time a sitting president would have a member of his family found guilty of a crime during their father’s term in office even though Hunter’s crimes predate Joe Biden’s tenure as president.
President Biden has, however, shown enormous support for his son at this trying moment, saying he “will continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal.”
Hunter will likely face about 25 years in prison and a fine of up to $750,000 at sentencing. However, as a first-time offender, he is likely to receive far less than the maximum.
