Former President Donald Trump called global superstar Taylor Swift ‘unusually beautiful’ – and questioned whether she is really politically liberal.
Trump was careful with his words around the American singer-songwriter, who endorsed President Joe Biden in the 2020 election and has yet to endorse a 2024 candidate.
Asked in winter 2023 what he thought of Swift, Trump started by saying, ‘She’s got a great star quality, she really does,’ according to Variety co-editor-in-chief Ramin Setoodeh in his forthcoming book Apprentice in Wonderland: How Donald Trump and Mark Burnett Took America Through the Looking Glass.
Trump continued by calling Swift ‘beautiful’ four times.

‘I think she’s beautiful—very beautiful! I find her very beautiful. I think she’s liberal. She probably doesn’t like Trump,’ he said. ‘I hear she’s very talented. I think she’s very beautiful, actually—unusually beautiful!’
While Trump complimented Swift’s looks, he did take a swipe at her by casting doubt on her political affiliation.
‘But she is liberal, or is that just an act?’ he said. ‘She’s legitimately liberal? It’s not an act? It surprises me that a country star can be successful being liberal.’
Setoodeh informed the ex-president that Swift is not a country star anymore, having moved to pop more than a decade ago.

‘He doesn’t seem aware of this, but he reaches for a different name,’ wrote Setoodeh in an excerpt published on Monday by Variety. ‘“Garth Brooks is liberal. Explain that! How does it happen? But he’s liberal.” Trump trails off. “It’s one of those things..”’
Trump also said ‘don’t know it well’, in regards to Swift’s music.
Swift was a rumored Republican amid the 2016 election cycle, but set the record straight in 2018 by endorsing Democratic candidates for the Senate and House.
In her 2020 documentary Miss Americana, Swift said, ‘I need to be on the right side of history’, and shortly after that tweeted to Trump, ‘We will vote you out in November’.

Biden’s campaign reportedly contemplated sending him to attend the 14-time Grammy winner’s Eras Tour to try to win her endorsement which could be worth millions of dollars for him, The New York Times reported in January.
Around the same time, Trump reportedly was baffled that Swift won Time magazine’s 2023 Person of the Year title instead of him, and claimed that his fans are more devoted to him than Swifties are to her.
Apprentice in Wonderland, about Trump and British TV producer Burnett who was behind the ex-president’s hit show The Apprentice, is set to be published on June 18.
