A 15-year-old boy has been killed after a single-vehicle car crash and a 16-year-old boy is in hospital.
The crash happened in West Denton, Newcastle, in the early hours of this morning.
The boy in hospital is receiving treatment for injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening and he is under arrest.
He and two other boys aged 14 and 15 have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and they remain in police custody.
Inspector Dean Hood said: ‘This is a tragic incident where a young person has sadly lost their life.
‘Our thoughts are with their loved ones at this extremely difficult time, and they are currently being supported by our specially trained officers.
‘A full investigation is ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident and we are asking anyone with information that may assist us to come forward.’
