A YouTuber has been arrested for directing a video where a helicopter shoots fireworks at a £275,000 speeding Lamborghini in a ‘crazy stupid’ stunt.
Suk Min Choi, better known as Alex Choi, allegedly shot the video in Mojave Desert in California last summer to mark July 4.
The 24-year-old, who has almost one million subscribers to his YouTube channel, has been charged with ‘causing the placement of an explosive or incendiary device on an aircraft’.
According to an affidavit, he also created a hazard to persons or property, by ‘operating the helicopter in a manner that was careless or reckless so as to endanger the life or property of another.’
Choi could face up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
He allegedly posted the video, entitled ‘Destroying a Lamborghini with Fireworks’, on his YouTube channel.
The film is thought to be based on a video game and sees a man and a woman ‘acting as police officers’ looking for ‘an individual who is speeding’.

The affidavit says: ‘The female is then shown getting into a helicopter. In
subsequent clips, two females are seen onboard a helicopter, while the helicopter is airborne, and the females are holding and shooting fireworks out of the helicopter onto and towards a Lamborghini sportscar.’
It also says Choi is allegedly seen pressing a ‘fire missiles’ button.
It’s thought the 11-minute video, set to Miley Cyrus’s ‘Party in the USA’, was shot on the El Mirage Dry Lakebed in San Bernardino County and investigators suspect Choi was the one filming.

He also thanks a camera company for ‘being a part of my crazy stupid ideas’.
The Federal Aviation Administration has revoked the helicopter pilot’s licence for flying under the altitudes required by law and failing to display the aircraft’ ‘N’ number, according to prosecutors.
The affidavit says Choi did not have a licence to film the stunt.
He was scheduled to make his initial appearance at a Los Angeles court on Thursday, with his arraignment to follow in the coming weeks.

In 2021 a YouTuber deliberately crashed his plane to boost the number of viewers on his channel and then lied about it to investigators.
Trevor Jacob was jailed for six months last year after reaching a plea deal.
Dramatic footage shot in California and viewed millions of times on YouTube, showed the former Olympic snowboarder ejecting from a single-engine plane and parachuting to safety, while the empty plane crashes to the ground.
