Manchester United target Morten Hjulmand, who has already earned rave reviews from Bruno Fernandes, hinted he would love to play in the Premier League one day.
After a disappointing season, which saw United finish eighth in the Premier League, part-owners Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are planning a summer overhaul of the club.
Despite ending on a high with their shock FA Cup win over local rivals Manchester City, the future remains shrouded in mystery for manager Erik ten Hag, with reports still suggesting that he could face the sack.
Regardless of the uncertainty hanging over Ten Hag, United are keen to move forward with their summer transfer business and are already turning their attention to Sporting midfielder Hjulmand.
The Dane, who signed from Italian side Lecce last summer, became a crucial cog in Ruben Amorim’s side as they stormed to the Portuguese league title.
Such displays have put the midfielder on United’s radar this summer, with reports in Portugal suggesting the club could move to activate his €80million release clause.
When asked about his future, Hjulmand was coy about links with United but suggested that he would, one day, love to play in the English top flight.

‘I’d say that it is a destination I could see myself going to in the future. Whether it’s a dream, I don’t know. But it is a goal for me to play in the Premier League one day,’ he told Danish outlet Tipsbladet.
Hjulmand’s first season at Sporting also caught the eye of current United captain – and former Sporting player – Fernandes, who raved about the 24-year-old’s ability back in March.
‘I love Sporting’s midfield. I love [Hidemasa] Morita and Hjulmand,’ the Portuguese international said.
‘They’re two vital players in Sporting’s game, especially when they have to have more of the ball and be more tactically organised.’
Asked about Fernades’ comments, Hjulmand said: ‘It’s always nice to get praise from other big profiles. I know he’s a former Sporting player and he’s still a big fan of the club, so it’s great to know that he’s still watching.
‘It can only make me happy to get praise from a player like him.’
