A father on a motorcycle ride in memory of his murdered 19-year-old daughter tragically crashed to his own death.

Timothy Hoffman Sr, 58, was doing a memorial ride on Sunday to mark the fifth anniversary of Cynthia Hoffman’s death when he ‘lost control of his motorcycle’, according to the Alaska Department of Public Safety.

Hoffman was riding with a passenger – his wife and Cynthia’s mother – northbound on South Rainbow Street when he veered off the left shoulder and rolled into the center median of the road, stated the department.

Both were found unresponsive by state troopers around 1.30pm by mile 49 on Parks Highway.

They were rushed with life-threatening injuries to a nearby hospital.

Hoffman, of Anchorage, was pronounced dead at the hospital. He was not wearing a helmet.

His wife, Barbara ‘Jeanie’ Hoffman, wore a full-face helmet and suffered skull fractures, a broken back and broken bones, the Anchorage Daily News reported. She underwent surgery on Sunday and will require more surgeries.

It was the first year that she had ridden on her husband’s motorcycle for the annual memorial ride. In years past, she had ridden in a car trailing the event.

Patrick McKay, the lead prosecutor in multiple criminal cases around Cynthia’s death, said he was ‘deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Tim Hoffman on the fifth anniversary of Cynthia Hoffmann’s murder’.

‘It seems almost too unbelievable to be true,’ McKay told the newspaper.

‘I hope his family and friends take comfort in remembering that Tim died doing something he loved, with people he loved, in memory of someone he loved.’

Hoffman was a ‘zealous advocate’ for his daughter, added McKay.

Cynthia was fatally shot and dumped into the Eklutna River in June 2019. The person Cynthia considered her best friend, Denali Brehmer, then 18, recruited four friends to kill her, according to investigators.

Over the past five years, Hoffman attended court hearings and called for the defendants to serve maximum sentences.

Hoffman crashed while riding to the last stop of the memorial ride in Big Lake, where about 50 people waited to commemorate Cynthia with live music.

‘He’s with his daughter now,’ Hoffman’s friend, Leslie Sonnenberg, told the newspaper.

‘Too soon and not the way he hoped.’
