A couple were able to reel in more than £78,000 in cash after pulling up a safe while fishing.
James Kane and Barbie Agostini used a magnet while fishing in Corona Parkin New York.
The couple had found empty safes before, but after wrenching their latest find open, it became clear they had found some treasure.
James told NY1: ‘We pulled it out and there were two stacks of freaking hundreds. Big stacks.’
Sadly water worked its way into the safe and damaged the dollar bills.
It is unclear if they will be able to cash the money, but the US Bureau of Engraving and Printing may redeem them.
According to their website, if more than 50% of the currency is identifiable, a lawful holder of the notes ‘may receive a redemption at full value’.
The New York Police Department conducted an investigation surrounding the safe but found there was no issue.

Barbie said: ‘Obviously, it was a safe that was stolen but there was no crime with us.
‘There was no IDs, no way to find the original person in the safe so they were like, “well, congratulations”.’
Officers with more than 18 years under their belt told the couple ‘they have never heard of anything like this’.
