Everybody makes mistakes – but this driver’s error caught on camera might be one of the most awkward.
Corey Harris appeared at a pre-trial hearing in Washtenaw County District Court in Michigan, US, via Zoom, facing a charge of driving with a suspended licence.
But his hopes of defending his case were quickly dashed when it became apparent that Harris had dialled in to the hearing while behind the wheel.
As Judge J Cedric Simpson started the hearing Harris asked for the judge to delay proceedings slightly, saying: ‘I’m pulling into my doctor’s office actually, so just give me one second, I’m parking right now.’
The video feed from the hearing, held earlier this month, showed Harris was clearly sat in the driver’s seat of a car, wearing a seatbelt and looking around to find somewhere to park.
Judge Simpson appeared stunned, asking if Harris was ‘stationary’ before his lawyer, Natalie Pate, asked for the hearing to be adjourned for up to four weeks.

Judge Simpson said: ‘So maybe I don’t understand something. This is a driver with a licence suspended?’
When Ms Pate confirmed this, Judge Simpson asked: ‘And he was just driving? And he didn’t have a licence?’
The hearing then descended into silence as Harris appeared to realise what had just happened, before Ms Pate replied: ‘It’s with the charges your honor, yes.’
Judge Simpson responded: ‘No, I’m looking at his record. He doesn’t have a license. He’s suspended and he’s just driving.
‘I don’t know why he would do that.’
Harris appeared to want to speak at several intervals, raising his hand and saying ‘um’, before apparently changing his mind and keeping quiet.

The judge ordered that Harris’s bond be revoked and that he had to turn himself in at the county jail by 6pm that evening, the New York Times reports.
Hearing the news, Harris sighed ‘oh my god’ and looked up at the roof of his car.
Records show Harris was booked into Washtenaw County Jail that evening and was later released on bond.
Ms Pate told him she would be giving him a call after the hearing, to which Harris replied ‘OK’ before the video footage cut out.
The next hearing in the case is scheduled for June 5.
