Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy is reportedly on Leicester City’s shortlist as they look to replace outgoing manager Enzo Maresca.
Maresca is all set to become Chelsea’s new boss, replacing Mauricio Pochettino who departed Stamford Bridge last week ‘by mutual consent’.
The Blues will pay £10million in compensation for the Italian who guided the Foxes back to the top-flight this season via the Championship title.
There should be no lack of interest in the Leicester job even if there is a risk that the club will start on negative points after being charged by the Premier League for allegedly breaking Profitability and Sustainability Rules.
A wide-range of names have been tipped to take the reins at the King Power, including West Brom’s Carlos Coberan, former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper and ex-Chelsea boss Graham Potter.
Another name mooted is Van Nistelrooy who has been out of work after leaving PSV under a cloud a year ago, citing a ‘lack of support’ from the Dutch club’s hierarchy.
And The Mirror report that the 47-year-old is indeed under consideration by Leicester, and comes after the former Netherlands international spoke of his desire to manage in the Premier League.

One of the greatest strikers of his generation, Van Nistelrooy won much silverware with PSV, United and Real Madrid.
He began his coaching career with the PSV youth team before being promoted to the top job, winning the Johan Cruyff Shield and the KNVB Cup in 2022/23, his only full season in charge.

Despite having two years left on his contract, he resigned before the campaign had even finished, with a club statement reading: ‘Van Nistelrooij reported this morning that in his opinion there was not enough support within the club to continue longer.’
Overall, he won 33 of his 51 games in charge (a 64.7% win percentage), losing just eight times.
