Virgil van Dijk says it’s ‘obvious’ new Liverpool manager Arne Slot will make ‘a lot of changes’ and has provided an update on his own future at Anfield.
When Jurgen Klopp announced that he was leaving Liverpool at the end of 2023-24, Van Dijk raised alarm bells by suggesting he could follow him out the door.
Captain Van Dijk only has a year left on his current Liverpool deal and could decide to move on next summer if he cannot agree a fresh contract with the Reds.
But Van Dijk is one of four players Slot is keen to build his team around and the pair have already sat down for talks as Liverpool prepare for a new area.
‘I congratulated him of course and I’m really pleased for him and his family,’ Van Dijk said of his chat with Slot.
‘We spoke about the team and the future, but now my focus is fully on the national team.
‘I still have a year left on my [Liverpool] contract. I am club captain and I have made it clear I am there for the new coach and enthusiastic over the next season.

‘Obviously, there will be a lot of changes but I am confident we will make a big success of it.’
Slot arrives at Liverpool with a glowing reputation and fellow star Trent Alexander-Arnold has ‘total trust’ that the Dutchman is the right man to succeed Klopp.
‘I have trust in the club and who we’ve appointed,’ the Englishman recently told Sky Sports.

‘As a player that’s all you can ask for is to have trust in what the higher ups have brought in and I’m sure it will be a smooth transition.’
Slot led Feyenoord to the Dutch top-flight title in 2022-23 and bowed out with a KNVB Cup triumph in 2023-24.
But he faces a tough task in matching Klopp’s reign at Liverpool – with the German winning seven major trophies – including the Premier League and Champions League during his time at Anfield.
