Robin van Persie has backed Arne Slot to do ‘very well’ as Liverpool manager, saying the new coach’s style of play is ‘in line’ with Jurgen Klopp’s.
Slot has huge shoes to fill at Anfield as he replaces the hugely popular German after nearly nine years in charge of the Reds.
It is the 45-year-old’s first experience of managing outside of his native Netherlands and it is an enormous step up from the job he is leaving at Feyenoord.
Former Manchester United and Arsenal striker Van Persie worked with Slot at Feyenoord and is backing him to handle that huge step up admirably, expecting the new Reds boss to shine in the Premier League.
‘I think [he’ll do] very well, very well,’ Van Persie told ESPN. ‘How he wants to play is in line with Klopp’s style of play and what they are used to there.
‘I expect them to do very well. Liverpool is one of the nicer clubs in England. I have been able to play for two other very nice clubs.
‘Slot has already been able to practice well at Feyenoord in that rhythm, but there [England] it goes very hard and fast for 11 to 11-and-a-half months a year. It is a very nice, new opportunity for him. I believe it will go very well.’

Another man who knows Slot well is Oussama Idrissi, who played under him at AZ and Feyenoord and the Morocco international is also tipping him for success at Anfield.
‘I really believe he can inspire the guys at Liverpool to play his style of football as well,’ Idrissi told The Guardian.
‘I think it’s a great match, Arne Slot and Liverpool. I can see him working there for a long time. The club are very stable and so is Arne, so it’s a good match.
‘People are going to appreciate him for how well-equipped he is and they will enjoy his style of football. I’m looking forward to it a lot.’
