Marcus Rashford has wished England’s players ‘all the best’ for Euro 2024 after he was left out of the squad by Gareth Southgate.
The Manchester United forward was a surprise omission as Southgate named a 33-man provisional squad for England’s Euro 2024 campaign on Tuesday afternoon.
Rashford has struggled to capture his best form for United this season, scoring just eight goals in 42 appearances.
The 26-year-old was also the subject of a disciplinary issue with United manager Erik ten Hag in January after he missed a training session having spent the previous evening in a nightclub.
Euro 2024 will be the first major tournament Rashford will miss for England since making his professional debut for United in 2016.
Under Southgate’s reign, Southgate has been a key figure having been included in England’s previous two World Cup squads in 2018 and 2022, as well as the European Championship in 2021.

Posting after England’s provisional Euro 2024 squad was announced on Tuesday, Rashford wrote: ‘Wishing Gareth and the boys all the best for the up and coming tournament.’
Southgate, meanwhile, offered a clear explanation for why Rashford has not been named in England’s provisional squad.
‘These are of course difficult calls, you’re talking about players who are very good players and who have been an important of what we’ve done over a number of years,’ Southgate said.
‘With Marcus I just feel other players in that area of the pitch have had better seasons, it’s as simple as that.’

Southgate also admitted he had concerns over taking too many attacking players to Euro 2024.
‘I’d also have to say I think you can take too many forwards as well,’ said Southgate.
‘You can have too many options in certain areas of the pitch. Of course, with forwards you’ve got to give them loved and make them feel special.
‘If you’ve got too many that can also be complicated. There’s a lot to think about over the next couple of weeks.’
