The Northern Youth Leader’s Forum, NYLF, has warned that the North will never allow its territory to host French and American military bases “under any guise or reason”.
DAILY POST reports that there are speculations that the Federal Government was considering approving military bases for the US and France following their ejection from neighboring Niger Republic.
The Minister of Information, Mohammed Idris, however, said the government has no plan to host foreign military bases within its borders, describing the speculations as “false alarms”.
Addressing newsmen in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Wednesday, the National President of NYLF, Afiyo Elliot, said the Northern youths totally oppose the alleged plan and urge the Federal Government to discontinue it with immediate effect.
“We want to state clearly that, we have over the years observing the criminal
activities of the French Government against the interest of Nigeria especially in the North–East and North–West geopolitical zones.
“We also want to state clearly that the Northern Youth will never allow a
square meter of land in the entire North to be ceded to French or American
Governments under any guise or reason. If the Federal Government continue with this plan, then the Government should be prepared to kill all of us,” Afiyo said.
He also called Nigerians to challenge the powers working to make Nigeria a one–party state.
“It is in the light of this dangerous and unimaginable scheming and
tendencies, that we are embarking on an awareness and enlightenment
campaign to alert Nigerians on the dangers ahead if we allow these
politicians to succeed in their machinations and manoeuvres,” he added.
