An aristocrat has died after falling out of his bedroom window while letting his cat out.
The Marquess of Ailesbury, aged 98, died instantly on Sunday, after he crashed his head onto the concrete patio below his home.
He was found by his 88-year-old wife Teresa Marshall de Paoli who had been cooking supper.
She believes her husband had been lying there for more than an hour before she called emergency services.
When she discovered his body Teresa contacted her daughter Lady Kathryn Brudenell Bruce who then arrived at the scene.
Teresa said police treated the death like a ‘crime scene’ but she was not arrested.
She was allowed to later say goodbye to him and spray his favourite aftershave over his body.

Teresa told The Sun: ‘It was an absolutely freak accident.
‘I think the cat called Honeybun got her head stuck and he pushed it (the window) up and lost his balance and he fell onto to the patio.
‘He hit the concrete with the back of his head – I was told that would have killed him… A police officer said the death was instant.’

Teresa also revealed that her husband had been suffering with dementia at the time of his death.
The couple lived together at their home in Shepherd’s Bush, west London, for 14 years after moving from Wiltshire.

The family house became a school, and was sold in 2015.
A spokesperson for the Met Police said: ‘Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 20:05hrs on Sunday, 12 May, to an address in Abdale Road, W12, after a man in his 90’s was found deceased. Officers and London Ambulance Service attended.’
Prince Harry dated model Florence Brudenell-Bruce in 2011 who is a relative of the Marquess but she eventually married Henry St George in July 2013.
