Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has one major reservation over replacing Erik ten Hag with Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel.

The club are increasingly likely to sack Ten Hag at the end of the season, following the Dutchman’s dismal second campaign at the club.

Though INEOS would have preferred to stick with the Dutchman, Ten Hag’s stock has fallen considerably since they acquired a 27.7% stake in the club in January.

United are now unlikely to qualify for Europe next term, forcing Ratcliffe and INEOS into a decision on Ten Hag.

While there’s a lack of candidates on the market, Tuchel is considered the best available.

The German won the Champions League with Chelsea and he’s believed to be keen to return to England, having agreed to leave Bayern at the end of the season.

Tuchel is the outstanding candidate, and preliminary talks with his representatives are said to have already taken place.

But the Daily Mail say United are concerned about Tuchel’s ‘abrasive’ nature.

The German has clashed with Bayern’s heirachy during his 18 months at the club, he was sacked on Christmas Eve at PSG after a falling out with the board, and he left Dortmund in acrimonious circumstances.

Even at Chelsea, Tuchel was sacked just weeks into Todd Boehly’s first season as owner after relations with the board soured quickly.

With Ratcliffe and Sir Dave Brailsford ultra-focused on changing the environment and culture at the club, they need a coach that is on board with their vision.

Tuchel has been accused at Bayern of demanding new players because he refuses to try to improve individuals that he doesn’t want at the club.
