Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested 202 suspects for their alleged involvement in kidnapping, armed robbery, rape and other offences across the state.
Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu disclosed this while briefing journalists on the activities of the Command between April and May 2024.
The Commissioner stated that some of the suspects have been arraigned in court and remanded at the correctional centres while the remaining ones will be arraigned after completion of investigations.
CP Kanayo further disclosed that the suspected criminals were arrested within and outside of the state.
Out of the 202 suspects, the CP said 35 were allegedly involved in kidnapping, while others were apprehended over armed robbery, vandalisation, murder, cultism, rape and unlawful possession of firearms.
He disclosed that the rape suspect was arrested on 25th of April after defiling a four-year-old-girl and causing serious damage in her house.
Kanayo who described Enugu State as the most peaceful state in the country, added that the people of the state are law-abiding.
He used the event to charge the people to disregard the sit-at-home order called by the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra(IPOB), describing it as an aberration.
The Enugu police chief then urged them to go about their lawful businesses, assuring of the Command’s readiness to provide security for them.
On the recent attack by suspected herdsmen that led to the death of four persons in the state, the Police Commissioner pledged to partner with his counterparts in Benue and Kogi States to step up efforts against the crime.
