People have been asked not to go to hospitals in the Bristol city centre after a major critical incident was declared.
Patients were warned to go elsewhere after University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust declared a critical incident.
It comes after a power outage hit the hospitals in Bristol city centre today.
The Emergency Department is closed to new patients, the trust warned.
But the Children’s Emergency Department remains open.
Dr Rebecca Maxwell, interim chief medical officer at the UHBW, said in a statement according to ITV: ‘We have declared a critical incident due to a power outage. We aim to have this fully resolved as soon as possible.
would like to share with the public that every single patient, visitor and colleagues are safe.

‘Our adult emergency department is currently closed to patients but the children’s emergency department is open.
‘We ask the public not to attend our Bristol city centre hospitals until the incident is resolved and use alternative services in the area.
‘We have an emergency power back-up generator that is supplying a lot of power to the hospital and we’re bringing more generators in to support that.
‘One or two areas in the hospital do not have lights at the moment and one of those is part of the adult emergency department which is closed to new patients.’
The Trust said on X (formerly Twitter): ‘A number of our Bristol hospitals continue to be affected by a power outage. Our adult Emergency Department is closed to new patients. Our children’s Emergency Department is still open. We continue to keep patients and colleagues safe.
‘Please do not visit and consider alternative services.
‘Call 999 if you have a life threatening emergency, or NHS 111 if you need urgent medical advice.’
Motorists were also asked to avoid the area after Avon and Sommerset Police said it was at the scene supporting the firefighters, with a road closure in place on Upper Maudlin Street.
The Trust’s sites in the city include BRI, Bristol Royal Hospital for Children, St Michael’s Hospital and Bristol Eye Hospital.
