King Charles is well-known for working hard and it seems he takes his fitness seriously too.

The monarch reportedly has a 12-minute daily morning fitness regime to keep himself healthy and trim.

According to Channel 5’s Inside Windsor Castle, which is on at 9pm tomorrow, Charles starts the day with ‘press-ups, sit-ups, the whole lot’.

Presenter Xand Van Tulleken said Charles’ mother, the late Queen Elizabeth had a much more relaxed morning routine.

‘The late queen preferred a gentler start to her day,’ he said. ‘A cuppa and a biccie or two were apparently enough for her.’

Prince Harry, meanwhile, revealed in his memoir Spare that every day his father would do headstands in his boxers to tackle backpain from his many years of playing polo.

The Duke of Sussex wrote there was always a risk of walking in on Charles – ‘in just a pair of borers, propped against a door or hanging from a bar like a skilled acrobat’ – at Balmoral if you accidentally opened the wrong door.

‘If you set one little finger on the knob you’d hear him begging from the other side: No! No! Don’t open! Please God don’t open!’ he wrote.

It’s not known whether the King, now 75, still does his headstands.

Last week it was announced Charles had been given the go ahead by doctors to return to public facing duties after his cancer diagnosis in February.

He and Queen Camilla made a joint visit to a cancer centre on Tuesday.

Officials said His Majesty’s treatment programme would continue but doctors ‘are sufficiently pleased with the progress made so far that The King is now able to resume a number of public facing duties’.

Camilla has previously called Charles a ‘workaholic’ and he’s known for working long into the night.

But the King has reportedly been told he has to make number of lifestyle changes to make sure he’s as healthy as possible, which includes the number of hours he spends at his desk.

His former press secretary, Julian Payne, spoken about Charles’ strict eating habits. He told the The Times: ‘The King doesn’t eat lunch; so, an early lesson I learnt when out on the road with him was to have a big breakfast or bring a few snack bars with you to keep you going.’

‘The working day is pretty relentless. Beginning with the radio news headlines and a breakfast of seasonal fruit salad and seeds with tea.’

His friends and former staff have also said he always takes a break at 1pm, not for lunch, but to take a stroll and get some fresh air.

Charles daily fitness routine is thought to be inspired by the Canadian Royal Air Force’s 5BX plan.

The plan was originally designed to keep pilots in top shape and can be done wherever you are, without equipment.

It includes stretching, sit-ups, press-ups, stationary running and scissor jumps.

Charles, who served with the Royal Navy and RAF, reportedly does his exercises twice a day.

Mr Payne said Charles also eats ‘extremely healthy organic food’ and doesn’t drink much alcohol’.
