Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has expressed concern over the adverse effects of drug abuse on the youths.
He described it as a menace that is ravaging youths across the north and the country as a whole.
Fintiri said this on Friday when he played host to international humanitarian and bikers group, Jeje Riders Nigeria at the Government House, Yola.
He vowed that the state would tap into the energy of youths who are very productive and can
contribute to the growth and development of the state.
The governor, who expressed happiness with the energy in the group of young professionals of different fields, said his administration was open to working with them in developing Adamawa State.
“I completely support the drive Jeje Riders has taken upon itself to educate youths on the ills of drug abuse and peddling.
“Drug abuse is a big menace that is ravaging youths across the north and the country as a whole and you know what drugs do to the human mind-it kills potentials,” Fintiri said.
The governor further stated that he was willing to support Jeje Riders in the campaign against drug abuse in the state, promising to be present in all the anti-drug abuse campaigns organised by the group in the state.
He also called on youths across the country to lend hands in the growth and development of
the country.
Earlier in a brief remark, the president and chairman, Board of Trustee (BoT) of Jeje Riders Nigeria, Ibrahim Tizhe thanked the governor for receiving the group in his office.
Tizhe said they planned to begin Anti-Drugs Abuse and Peddling Campaigns across secondary schools in Adamawa State, in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement
Agency, NDLEA.
He explained that the campaign was targeted at major secondary schools in Adamawa and across other northern states.
He stressed that the group was worried over the increase in the cases of drug abuse by youths of secondary school age, hence, the need for quick action to discourage them from ruining their future.
