Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has called on lawmakers to work tirelessly for the good of Nigerians.
Akpabio said this on Tuesday in Abuja at the resumption of plenary.
“Once again, let us be reminded that the Nigerian people have placed their trust in us, and it is our duty to honor that trust by working tirelessly for their well-being and the progress of the nation.
“As we resume our duties today, I warmly welcome you back to your duty posts. Let me take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation to all of you for the journey we have embarked on together,” he said.
The president of the senate said the loss of soldiers, and other security personnel and tragic explosion in Port Harcourt that claimed innocent lives and caused widespread devastation, highlighted the urgency of addressing safety measures and ensuring the well-being of citizens.
He said the increase in electricity tariffs and petroleum prices emphasized the pressing need to address issues of affordability, inflation, and overall well-being of the nation’s economy.
He said the senate and the House of Representatives must collaborate and cooperate to provide the required legislation to lift Nigerians up.
He said efforts by lawmakers must be focused on restoring hope, righting wrongs, and upholding commitments to the well-being of the people.
The senate president said the fight against poverty and hunger must be total and relentless, with focus on addressing its root causes and restoring dignity to the marginalized.
He urged senators to approach the work ahead with unwavering determination and a deep sense of responsibility.
