A high school has been evacuated after staff received a ‘threatening email’ this afternoon.
Matthew Moss High School in Rochdale posted online just before 1pm today and said ‘all learners and staff’ were safe.
In a full statement on Twitter it said: ‘Matthew Moss High School have received a threatening message by email and have evacuated the school as a precaution.
‘All learners and staff are safe and the police are in attendance.
‘Please do not travel to the school at this time to allow police and staff to manage the situation.’
One parent posted online and said: ‘I haven’t heard anything but my daughter just rang me in a panic saying they are being evacuated. ‘
The nature of the message hasn’t been revealed and there are no further details.
It’s understood pupils at the high school have been evacuated to nearby Springfield Park as a result.
Matthew Moss is a coeducational secondary school, that was previously a community school administered by Rochdale Metropolitan Borough Council.
In November 2019 it was converted to academy status and is now part of the Watergrove Trust.
Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for comment.
