A British man is fighting for his life after being run over by a lorry in Ibiza.

The holidaymaker, 28, was struck along the Sant Josep highway, which connects Ibiza to the western area of Sant Josep, on Sunday morning.

The incident happened near the Cas Costas restaurant in the city of Ibiza, the La Voz de Ibiza newspaper reported.

After leaving Cas Costas, the man was reportedly crossing the road when the lorry hit him.

He was drunk at the time, the newspaper said, and had ignored the pleas of a taxi driver to be more careful.

He was taken to Policlínica Nuestra Señora del Rosario, a private hospital in Ibiza city centre, for treatment at 9.55am.

The Briton remains in ICU and has suffered from head injuries, chest injuries with multiple broken ribs and a back injury.

Island police have launched an investigation.
