West Ham United youngster George Earthy is ‘awake’ after suffering a devastating injury minutes into his Premier League debut against Fulham.
The 19-year-old, one of the club’s brightest young prospects, was summoned from the bench late on in Sunday’s clash at the London Stadium with West Ham trailing 2-0 thanks to goals from Andreas Pereira.
Just three minutes after entering the pitch, Earthy accidentally collided with his own teammate Edson Alvarez while challenging for a high ball.
Medical staff rushed onto the pitch with the youngster carried off on a stretcher after six minutes of treatment on the pitch.
Earthy required oxygen during that period.
Speaking after the game, West Ham boss David Moyes confirmed his player was on his way to the hospital for further tests having regained consciousness.
‘It’s been a head injury, he is awake and on his way to hospital,’ Moyes told Sky Sports.

‘His first three or four touches were terrific, really disappointed for the boy. He has been doing ever so well in training. We will all look after him.’
The Hammers boss continued: ‘I am really disappointed for George.
‘He has been doing really well in training, done really well for the 21s. He started well with the ball, had some really nice touches.

‘He is a terrific footballer, a great little technician. Really if we’d had the right moments we’d bring him on sooner.
‘We were going to bring him on earlier today. He never let himself down in the period he was on.’
West Ham added in a statement: ‘West Ham United can confirm George Earthy will undergo an assessment in a London hospital this evening following the incident which saw him stretchered off during today’s Premier League fixture against Fulham.’
