The ‘multi-vehicle collision’ happened between between two junctions near Leicester
A stretch of the M1 northbound is at a standstill this morning following a crash involving several drivers.
National Highways East Midlands said the ‘multi-vehicle collision’ happened at about 6.45am between Junction 20 and Junction 21 near Leicester.
Emergency services attended the scene and it took around an hour to clear the road.
Two lanes were reopened by 8am and the third around half an hour later.
The bottleneck spells severe congestion for the rest of the morning, with National Highways warning drivers to expect delay of ‘at least’ 45 minutes.
The crash is believed to have involved at least three vehicles.
Leicestershire Police said none of the victims suffered life-changing or life-threatening injuries.
There were also minor delays after the part of the M69 was closed following a ‘police-led incident’ earlier this morning.
Traffic was held up for southbound traffic between Junction 21 with the M1 and Junction 1 near Hinckley.
