A clever crow managed to fool police officers by copying a police car siren.

Officers from Thames Valley Police couldn’t quite believe what they were hearing when the bird whistled out a perfect rendition in Bicester, Oxfordshire.

They initially thought the sirens were faulty but soon tracked down the bird in a nearby tree.

The force posted on its Facebook page: ‘Before you read on… this is 100% real and is NOT a late April Fools joke.

‘Officers at our roads policing base in Bicester have been left a little bit confused this week, after finding out one of their resident birds has learnt to mimic the sound of a police siren.

‘It’s so accurate, they’ve been left thinking the sirens were faulty on the cars.’

People who responded to the video found it hilarious.

Kat Harman wrote: ‘This is amazing, I had no idea they did this.’

Sharon Bethel pointed out: ‘My brother had a pet Jackdaw that was an amazing mimic. The Corvid family are so intelligent.’

And Marion Cole commented: ‘We had as crow in our garden who mimics a mol bike phone ringing.’

Crows can mimic human voices and other noises and are known as one of the most intelligent birds.

This is because they have large brains in comparison to their body size.

They are part of genus Corvus and are common across the UK.

Crows are even known to mourn their dead, ponder their own existence, and share knowledge with one another.

The contemplation of existence is only found in few animals, like humans, monkeys and great apes.

A 2020 study also found crows know when they drop nuts and cars run them over they can return and eat what is inside.
