‘Serious incident’ closes major UK motorway

A motorway has closed for traffic after a ‘serious incident’ during the night.

M6 has closed after a police incident in Cheshire near Warrington following a serious crash.

A closure is in place on the northbound carriageway through Cheshire between Junction 21 (Warrington) and 21a (M62).

National Highways warned drivers of severe congestion with queues of around six miles.

Ambulance crews are also on the scene.

The collision was first reported at around 12.30am.

Diversions are in place and drivers should follow route marked with a solid square symbol on road signs.

The roadworks that were in place between J23 and J26 have been removed to help with traffic.

The incident is expected to clear by 2.30pm today, National Highways said.

Police and the ambulance service have been contacted for a comment.
