A three-year-old girl who got ahold of her father’s unsecured gun fatally shot herself in the eye.
Kayden Barnes shot herself in the right eye in her home in Philadelphia’s East Germantown area on Saturday afternoon.
The Pennsylvania city’s medical examiner’s office notified police that Kayden died around 2.31am on Monday, NBC Philadelphia reported.
Kayden suffered the gunshot wound in her home on the 500 block of East Chelton Avenue around 1.16pm, police said.
She was airlifted to St Christopher’s Hospital for Children in extremely critical condition.
A man was taken into custody for questioning in connection with the shooting.
The man was released and police said they are not planning to press charges.
Authorities did not confirm whether the man was Kayden’s father, but both her parents were at home at the time of the shooting.
