The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged Muslims faithful in the country to start looking for the new moon of Shawwal 1445 AH on Monday.
The Sultan through the Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, gave the directive in a statement issued on Sunday.
“This is to inform the Muslim Ummah that Monday 8th April, 2024 which is equivalent to 29th day of Ramadan 1445AH shall be the day to look for the new moon of Shawwal 1445AH.
“Muslims are therefore requested to start looking for the new moon of Shawwal 1445AH on Monday and report its sighting to the nearest district or village head for onward communication to His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, the Sultan of Sokoto,” the statement said.
When sighted on Monday, that would bring to an end the month long Ramadan fast by Muslim faithful in the country.
