A life-sized taxidermy parrot has been placed in a massive pothole after locals became fed up with it not being fixed.

The black and blue parrot was spotted sitting on a branch coming out of the pothole, on the B1051 towards Pledgdon Green, Essex.

Traffic cones and part of a road sign have been added to the parrot’s new home, close to the village of Henham, Essex.

The bird was placed there by a nearby resident as locals are becoming fed up that the massive pothole has been not fixed by the authorities.

It has brought a lot of laughter to the issue and has since been nicknamed ‘the pothole parrot of Pledgdon’.

In March, an Asphalt Industry Alliance (AIA) report found the amount needed to fix the backlog of local road repairs has reached a record £16.3 billion.

Locals across the UK have shared their frustration with the delays of councils fixing their potholes.

Last year, one unhappy local became so frustrated at the shocking state of the roads in Stroud, Gloucestershire, they decided to highlight the issue in a very specific way.

They drew penis shapes around the multiple potholes that blight Rodborough Hill.

Stroud’s district councillor, Robin Layfield, said he didn’t condone the actions of the person behind the graffiti – but he believes it did highlight the urgent need for action.

He explained: ‘Whilst I can’t condone people taking action of this nature – putting themselves at risk by standing in the middle of the road and painting symbols that may be more unsettling than humorous for members of our community – it does highlight how urgent the need for action from county council and highways is.’
