The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, has issued five new directives to electricity distribution companies following the recent tariff hike.
The directives were in a recent notice signed by the Deputy General Manager of Market Competition and Rates, Abba Terab.
Recall that NERC last Tuesday approved a N225 per kilowatt-hour electricity tariff for Band A electricity customers getting at least 20 hours of power supply.
In a follow-up update, NERC mandated all discos to ensure that only the 480 newly approved Band A feeders are charged the new rate.
It mandated All DisCos to immediately post the schedule of approved Band A feeders affected by the rate review on their websites.
The Commission stressed that all DisCos should set up a portal on their website by April 10, 2024, allowing all customers to check their current bands by entering their meter or account numbers.
Accordingly, NERC said all customers wrongly billed at the new rate should be refunded through energy tokens no later than Thursday, April 11, 2024, and file evidence of compliance with the Commission by April 12 2024.
The Commission said it will monitor compliance with the abovementioned requirements and will continue to support all stakeholders as required.
