The National Association of Polytechnic Students has announced plans to host a leadership programme on ‘Sustainable Development and Environmental Stewardship’.
The programme aims to empower young Nigerians with the knowledge and skills necessary to tackle the pressing issues of climate change and environmental degradation.
NAPS vice president, Ahmed Ajewole in a statement made available to PUNCH Healthwise on Saturday, said the programme will focus on promoting environmental conservation, renewable energy, and sustainable economic growth in Nigeria.
Ajewole explained that the programme is geared towards providing polytechnic students with the knowledge and skills needed to tackle climate change, promote environmental conservation, and advance sustainable economic growth.
He added that the event, scheduled to take place at Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, Ogun State, is expected to have in attendance key political leaders, economic stakeholders and public office holders.
The NAPS Vice President, however, expressed the organisation’s excitement and commitment towards hosting the programme.
Ajewole emphasised the crucial role of youth in shaping Nigeria’s future, stressing the need for leaders to prioritise sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
He added, “We are excited to host this programme and look forward to partnering with progressive-minded leaders and stakeholders in Nigeria.
“As students, we recognise the critical role of youths in the development of the country. Hence, we must equip ourselves with the necessary skills and knowledge to create a sustainable future for our country.
“The programme, which is scheduled to take place on May 14, 2024, will feature keynote addresses, panel discussions, and interactive sessions. Participants will be drawn from various sectors including government, civil society, business, and academia.
“The event will also provide a platform for participants to network and share insights on tackling the socio-economic and environmental challenges facing Nigeria and as well provide a platform for continuous tutelage.
“Topics to be covered during the event include sustainable development goals, environmental stewardship, and youth leadership in nation-building.
“The keynote speakers for the event include a Commissioner, SSA, and a renowned doctor of research and development.
“Other eminent personalities, seasoned leaders, and stakeholders in the private and public sectors of the economy will also grace the occasion. The programme promises to be full of insightful and impactful speeches, interactive sessions, and practical training geared towards capacity building and leadership development.
“We are hereby inviting progressive-minded leaders and stakeholders to partner with us in making the program a success. The organisation believes that by collaborating with like-minded individuals and organisations, it can make a significant impact towards achieving sustainable development in Nigeria.”
