Jason Wilcox has reportedly resigned from Southampton and is set to join Manchester United as a technical director, with the Saints left furious.

Wilcox, who previously had a spell as Manchester City’s academy director, is expected to become a key part of United’s new era under Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

He will now work under incoming sporting director Dan Ashworth, who himself swapped Newcastle for Old Trafford as INEOS continue to make various changes.

Wilcox had been working as Southampton’s director of football but has decided to join the Red Devils in a different role, according to widespread reports.

It has also been reported that the south coast club are angry with United over the timing of their approach for Wilcox and the two sides had a major disagreement.

Southampton, who currently play in the Championship after relegation from the Premier League, refused to accept United’s compensation offer.

The Saints think Wilcox is worth much more than what United offered while the Red Devils believe it is ‘unrealistic’ for Southampton to expect a higher sum.
