A young boy appeared so eager to go to school he allegedly stole his mother’s car and tried driving there – only to crash into a cop car.
The scene ‘straight out of a movie’ unfolded in Oroville, where a patrol officer encountered a gray Volkswagen sedan ‘stopped oddly’ in the middle of an intersection, stated the California Highway Patrol.
Once the patrol officer instructed the vehicle to move, it instead sped off suddenly and prompted a ‘short and erratic chase’ ending at a parking lot next to Plumas Avenue Elementary School, according to the agency.
‘In a surprising turn of events, the driver after coming to a stop abruptly reversed the vehicle he was driving, ramming the officer’s patrol car in a moment that could have led to a grave outcome,’ wrote the highway patrol on Facebook.

‘But the plot twist…?
‘The driver was a 9-year-old child on a mission to drive himself to school in his mother’s car. Yes, you read that right – a 9-year-old behind the wheel!’
When the officer approached the driver, a ‘wide-eyed’ child was in the driver’s seat.
‘We are relieved to report that no one was injured in this incident,’ stated the highway patrol.

Both vehicles had minor damage.
Authorities took the boy to school after processing the scene.
The incident around 9.20am on Wednesday at the intersection of 4th Street and Grand Avenue involving the child should be ‘wake-up call’ to educate kids on the dangers of unauthorized driving and to secure vehicles, said the highway patrol.
‘Let’s use this unusual event as a catalyst for conversations about safety, responsibility, and the importance of adhering to our community’s driving laws,’ wrote the agency.

The highway patrol titled the social media post: ‘Another Episode of You Can’t Make This Up’.
It happened four months after a 12-year-old boy stole a forklift truck from a middle school in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and took cops on what may have been one of the slowest police chases ever.
