Easter bunny faces being blown off course by strong winds over weekend

Winds of up to 70mph could hit parts of England’s south coast tomorrow, the Met Office has warned, with a yellow warning issued for the region.

Cities including Plymouth, Portsmouth and Brighton fall under the warning, which will come into effect at 7am on Thursday and last until 6pm.

The weather may result in some disruption for people travelling south ahead of the Easter weekend.

According to the Met Office’s summary, ‘strong winds and large coastal waves may lead to hazardous conditions’.

There is a small chance of injuries and a danger to life from large waves and material from the beach being thrown into the path of people on the seafront.

The weather forecaster said the region under the warning – which stretches from the Scilly Isles in the west to Eastbourne in the east – will be widely hit by gusts of 50mph.

In some areas on the coast, wind speeds could hit between 60 and 70mph.

A separate yellow warning for rain is currently in effect on much of the east coast of Northern Ireland, amid concerns about ‘impacts to travel and infrastructure’.

It will remain in place until 1pm.
