Drivers swerve after Peugeot hurtles the wrong way down A-road

This is the moment drivers were forced to swerve their cars after someone drove down the wrong side of an A-road.

Dashcam footage captured the Peugeot 208 speeding down the left-hand lane of the A19 near Norton, County Durham, on March 1.

James, 29, who didn’t want to reveal his last name, captured the video on his way to his waste management job from Stockton to Newcastle.

James and the driver in front of him had to swerve right while travelling 60mph in order to avoid a crash.

The video shows James listening to his radio before the Peugeot driver hurtles towards him suddenly.

He can be heard saying ‘Jesus f**king Christ’ a number of times following the near miss.

He said: ‘Someone was coming up the wrong side of the road and I thought “What the hell is he playing at?”

‘It’s the craziest thing I’ve seen since I saw a horse try to get on the A66 from a slip road.

‘Normally I hear about this kind of thing in the local paper but I didn’t see anything there.’

Cleveland Police said in a statement: ‘At 10:15 am police were called to reports of a silver Peugeot 208 driving in the wrong direction on the A19 northbound carriageway heading southbound towards Portrack Lane.

‘Enquiries remain ongoing to identify the driver of the vehicle.’

This is not the first time someone has driven down the wrong side of a road after a man drove his BMW down the wrong way of the motorway.

Both marked and unmarked police cars surrounded the vehicle in question and crashed into it to stop it on the M6 near Stretton, in Cheshire, last November.

A 34-year-old man was arrested on multiple charges, including drunk and drug driving.
