The Danish journalist involved in Jurgen Klopp’s viral post-match interview after Liverpool’s defeat to Manchester United has revealed that the German continued ‘yelling and screaming’ after he stormed off.
Klopp faced the media just moments after his quadruple hopes were dashed following Amad Diallo’s dramatic extra-time winner in a 4-3 FA Cup quarter-final win for United at Old Trafford.
Speaking to Viaplay, however, the Liverpool boss took issue with reporter Niels Christian Frederiksen’s suggestion that his players lacked intensity in extra time.
Bemoaning his side’s hectic schedule, Klopp labelled the question ‘dumb’ before storming out of the interview as the reporter looked to ask a follow-up question.
Frederiksen has now revealed that Klopp’s anger with the interviewer spilt over even after the cameras stopped rolling, with bystanders left ‘shocked’ by his behaviour.
‘I was very surprised by it and the people standing around were scared and they were kind of pressed against the wall like, “Wow, what the hell happened right here?”,’ he said in an interview with Danish outlet Tipsbladet.
‘It continued after what you saw on TV. He continued down the hall, yelling and screaming at me. I also went after him, because I thought it was a strange thing.
‘I was very surprised, while some people looked very shocked, and they asked: “Are you okay?”’
Frederiksen insisted he held no grudge against Klopp over the incident and doesn’t expect it to affect their working relationship moving forward.
The reporter was also keen to clarify a comment made by Klopp as he walked off where the Liverpool boss had seemed to suggest that Frederiksen was ‘not in a great shape’.
