Is it “psycho” to rip apart a slug with your bare hands? (Credits: Getty Images)
Is it excessive to call the BBC Breakfast’s environment correspondent a psychopath for how he stops slugs from devouring his plants?
Admittedly, not nice to think about, one MetroTalk reader questions if the public reaction is overblown. Or, perhaps he should have kept his gruesome method of pest control to himself?
Meanwhile, readers weigh in on the obesity epidemic; pondering if we should take accountability for our widening waistlines. Perfectly punctual trains prompt disbelief, ticket touts get their just desserts and racegoers can’t find a toilet.

BBC Breakfast’s environment correspondent Jonah Fisher claimed he ripped slugs apart to stop them eating his plants (Metro, Fri).
Although I am not keen on that idea, for members of the public to brand him a ‘psychotic nutter’ and another commenting ‘what kind of maniacs are you hiring’ is on the extreme side.
As I get older, I find there are just too many of these ‘can’t say thats’ that upset people to this extreme.Geoff Hall, Croydon

Thank you, Ed Sheeran for speaking out against greedy ticket touts after a family of four super-touts was convicted of ripping off music fans for £6.5million (Metro, Thu). I hope the online platforms on which TQ Tickets resold their tickets are going to refund their commission or donate it to charity or going to use those proceeds to find ways to reduce ticket touting. Is being obese a choice?
Zoe (MetroTalk, Thu) says the cost-of-living crisis is making people comfort eat, which is leading to the obesity crisis. That’s the trouble nowadays – people don’t have any accountability for putting rubbish in their mouth and doing no exercise.
They blame comfort eating on the current crisis or emotional reasons.
Everyone is going through the same crisis, but not everyone is turning to overeating. I say this as an obese person. I’m fat because I chose to eat rubbish. Being obese is a choice and is unhealthy, despite what the current body positivity movement says. Matt, Sheffield
Sorry in advance for the pedantry but the text accompanying your photo (Metro, Fri) of the carrier strike group taking part in the Nordic War Games exercise contained a mistake. The caption for a photo of a formation of eight aircraft described six F-18s and two JAS-39s, whereas it should have read the other way round. Roy, London
Train on time? Must be another dimension
I get the 7.08am Southern service from Polegate to Gatwick Airport most mornings and the return 4.56pm most evenings. I’d like to ask the readers if there’s an astrophysicist or someone of the like who would like to study me?
I only ask because, for the past week, the train hasn’t been late once. Clearly at some point I’ve managed to find the art of jumping between these supposed parallel universes that exist – I definitely don’t reside in the old one because the trains there were regularly cancelled or delayed. Vince, Polegate.
Well done to your columnist, Kate Mason (MetroSport, Thu), for suggesting those who criticise professional sportsmen/women should look in their mirrors. The competitors are people doing a job, having good and bad, happy and sad times in their lives, as do we all. It’s difficult enough losing without getting flak from ‘supporters’. Why did they bother making the new 1p and 2p coins last October? They are just annoying coins that everyone tosses aside. Maria Johnson, Northamptonshire
No toilets at the racecourse?
I am bemused by the reports of public urination by racegoers at Cheltenham Festival (Metro, Wed). When you have to go, you have to go!
When countries celebrate Carnival (like in Trinidad & Tobago, where I’m from), they put out hundreds of portable toilets.
Using wee-repellent paint as they have done in Cheltenham is just putting a bandage on the real issue, which is the lack of toilets.
All over Europe, restrooms pay for themselves by having a one euro fee. Access to a bathroom should be a public right. Kay, Watford
