A woman working at a golf cart plant died after trying to pick up her AirPod from below a conveyer belt and getting caught in the machinery.

Alyssa Drinkard, 21, a line worker at Club Car plant in Evans, Georgia, dropped her earbud under the conveyer around 9.45pm last Friday, states an incident report from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office.

Drinkard got caught in a chain that moves the conveyer, her co-worker Fae’Zsha Smith told investigators.

Smith said she was not able to free Drinkard due to how she was stuck and called for maintenance to turn off the conveyer.

‘They began taking it apart once the machine was down and called 911,’ reads the report. Emergency responders pulled Drinkard out ‘by cutting the metal frame from around the conveyor’.

Drinkard had a pulse and emergency personnel performed life-saving measures and rushed her to a hospital. She died from her injuries on Saturday morning, WJBF reported.

Club Car confirmed the death of the employee and stated it is working with the contractor and authorities on an investigation into the incident.

‘First responders were immediately notified, and we thank them for their quick response to provide medical care and transportation to the hospital where the worker unfortunately later passed away,’ the company told The Augusta Press

‘Our sincere condolences and thoughts are with the family, friends and all impacted by this loss.’

Smith said she was working across from Drinkard when she dropped her AirPod and that she told the victim that she would help retrieve it when it was safe.

‘She said, “It’s OK, I’ll just get new ones,”‘ recounted Smith.

A second later, Smith said she saw Drinkard caught in the conveyer.

‘I’m kind of traumatized from seeing her that way,’ Smith said.

Club Car is based in Augusta and has long manufactured golf carts including those used in the PGA of America and European Tour, according to its website.

Drinkard died more than eight years after an Ohio man was killed after going into a restricted area of a theme park to retrieve his iPhone and getting struck by a rollercoaster.
