A woman’s body was discovered reportedly by her son stuffed in a duffel bag in a New York City apartment.

Nadia Vitel, 52, was found unconscious in her home in the Kips Bay neighborhood of Manhattan around 4.30pm on Thursday, police said. The mother was pronounced dead at the scene.

Vitel’s son came upon her body in a closet close to the entrance of the apartment, police sources told NBC New York. He and the building superintendent led arriving officers to the 19th floor unit.

The woman’s children had asked cops to do a wellness check on her after not hearing from her since Tuesday, law enforcement sources told PIX11.

Vitel was from Kyiv, Ukraine, and the building on East 31st Street is a subsidized government housing facility, the Daily Mail reported.

The building’s super, Jean Pompee, entered the unit after receiving a call from relatives, and found a dog had urinated on the floor due to being left alone.

‘They found a bag in the closet and said, “I believe there is a body in here.” I kind of sensed something was wrong, it kind of looked suspicious,’ Pompee told the Daily Mail.

‘The fire department opened the bag and discovered her body.

‘I didn’t peak and see the body myself, they just said there was a body in there and called the police.

‘It was in a little type of bag you zipped up, a soft case type. I felt bad, you never want to hear anyone is killed or murdered.’

Pompee added that it looked as if there had been a struggle in the apartment because the breaker panel was damaged.

CCTV pulled from the building reportedly showed Vitel entering on Sunday and a man and a woman in their 20s were also recorded going into her unit the same day, sources told NBC New York. The pair were allegedly seen leaving the building on Tuesday.

Cops were seen taking bags of Vitel’s belongings including three luggage pieces out of the building.

Vitel’s cause of death and any motive have not yet been determined.

Her death came less than a month after the father of a five-year-old Harmony Montgomery, who was last seen in 2019, was found guilty of murdering her and stuffing her body in a duffel bag and cooler before renting a U-Haul trick and dumping her remains.
