Michael Edwards will head up Liverpool’s post-Jurgen Klopp era after accepting an offer to return to the club.
Edwards left Anfield two years ago, when he abruptly quit as sporting director.
He was unhappy with his role at the club, and felt he needed more control in order to influence the Reds.
Edwards spent a decade at Anfield until his departure in 2022, and he played a pivotal role in signing the likes of Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
He initially declined a request to return to the club after Klopp’s announcement in January that he would step down at the end of the season.
However, Edwards will now take up an influential role at Anfield that will see him practically control football oeprations.

His first task will be finalising a deal for Bournemouth’s Richard Hughes as Liverpool’s new sporting director.
Hughes announced last week that he will leave the south coast club at the end of the season, and he’s expected to move to Anfield.
Edwards will then help to appoint a successor for Klopp.
Liverpool are interested in Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso, but face competition from Bayern Munich.
