Kate Middleton is ‘deeply upset’ over the conspiracies triggered by the photo released on Mother’s Day, it was reported.

The ‘Kategate’ picture editing row is the latest controversial move from the Royal Family.

The Princess of Wales was forced to confess to ‘editing’ what was initially clamed to be an ‘official’ image showing her celebrating with her three children.

But experts had a field day with it, pointing out multiple errors – from the zipper of her jacket and Charlotte’s hair and jumper, to the tiles on the floor.

A Buckingham Palace insider has now told The Telegraph that the princess felt ‘awful’ about the altered image, and she had tried to make the photo the ‘best it could be’.

Meanwhile, a friend of hers also said she would be ‘upset’ by the storm caused by what was meant to be an ‘innocent family photograph’, the Mirror reported.

This comes after Kate admitted to ‘occasionally experimenting’ as an ‘amateur photographer’ in a statement on X.

She said about the gaffe: ‘Like many amateur photographers, I do occasionally experiment with editing.

‘I wanted to express my apologies for any confusion the family photograph we shared yesterday caused.

‘I hope everyone celebrating had a very happy Mother’s Day. C’

The photograph, taken by Prince William at the family home in Windsor on Friday, was the first to be issued since her abdominal surgery in January.

It was supposed to put the rumours about her ‘disappearance’ to rest, but instead it did the opposite.

Curiously, the surprise was not that the picture was edited, but that it was done so poorly.

Royal commentator Peter Hunt stressed that the incident could be damaging for the family.

He said: ‘Their challenge is that people will now question whether they can be trusted and believed when they next issue a health update.’
