The mother of German Madeleine McCann suspect, Christian Brueckner, has said she no longer has ‘anything to do’ with her adopted son.

Brigitte Brueckner took in the repeat sex offender and drug dealer when he was a baby and raised him.

The pensioner has spoken for the first time since 2020, when her son was named as a prime suspect in the case of Madeleine, the toddler who went missing in Praia da Luz, in Portugal in 2007.

According to The Sun, Ms Brueckner has now said, ‘I don’t have anything to do with him anymore’.

She added: ‘As far as I’m concerned I have said goodbye. Auf Wiedersehen.’

She has previously said her life was ‘destroyed all over again’ when her son, now 47, became a Madeleine suspect.

The German adopted him along with his older brother from a home in the late 1970s.

A former staff member at the home told The Sun: ‘It’s terrifying to see what he has become when you see the pictures of him at court with those frightening eyes.’

They said he looked ‘nothing like the boy we all used to know’.

Brueckner has never been charged in connection with Madeleine and denies having any involvement in her disappearance.

He is currently in a German prison for the rape of a 72-year-old woman in her home in Praia da Luz in 2005.

He is also on trial for five unrelated charges, including three of rape, alleged to have been committed in Portugal between 2000 and 2017.

All the attacks took place close to where Madeleine vanished in Praia da Luz, it is claimed.

Brueckner spent 12 years living in and around the small resort town, where the McCanns were holidaying as part of the region’s drifter community.

Last month it was claimed he worked cash-in-hand at the Ocean Club tapas bar where Kate and Gerry McCann were having dinner with friends the night Madeleine disappeared.

A British acquaintance of Brueckner at the time, Ken Ralphs, said the German recruited a mutual friend as part of a plot to kidnap a child just a week before Madeleine went missing.

He had planned to sell the child on to a rich family, Mr Ralphs claimed, but he fears the intense media scrutiny lead Brueckner to ‘dispose’ of her instead.
