Eddie Howe has lauded Newcastle United star Tino Livramento, who was crowned Chelsea Academy Player of the Year just three years ago.

The Magpies signed the England U21 international full-back in August in a deal worth around £40m in total and he has impressed since moving to St James’ Park.

Livramento supported Chelsea growing up and spent 12 years with the west Londoners, eventually leaving in 2021 after contract talks fell through.

He moved to Southampton and made 34 appearances for the Saints but following their relegation to the Championship he was snapped up by Newcastle.

Ahead of Newcastle’s trip to Stamford Bridge on Monday, Magpies boss Howe has hailed former Chelsea wonderkid Livramento.

‘It has been a brilliant start to his Newcastle career, Tino has handled himself well, played ever so well,’ Howe said.

‘It goes without saying how good he is athletically and that showed with his goal against Wolves, showed his running ability and then his technical quality. I have been delighted with how he has started here.’
