A four-year-old girl has died after her father ‘forgot’ his daughter was fast asleep in his car in sweltering Brazillian heat.

Izzi Gil de Oliveira died sometime on Wednesday afternoon in Alagoinhas, a city in the northeastern state of Bahia.

Her father, who has not been named, meant to drop her off at school only to leave her in the back seat of his car while he was at work.

At the time, temperatures in the city were as high as 31°C.

Izzi’s father phoned the police after the little girl’s mother called her school because she wanted to check in on her daughter who had flu-like symptoms earlier that morning.

Instead, school administrators told the mother at around 3pm that Izzi had not turned up to school that day.

Izzi’s body was taken to the Legal Medical Institute (IML) of Alagoinha.

Civil Police arrested her father, 40, who faces manslaughter charges.

The dad claims he ‘forgot’ his daughter was sleeping in the back of his car when he went to work for the day.
